Highlights: State road near Murnau passable again - flooding can no longer harm the route. State road 2062 between Achrain and the Schwaiganger landfill was reopened to traffic on Friday afternoon. The times when the route had to be closed due to flooding are now over. 10,000 cubic metres of concrete were used – a climate polluter as we all know. The project remained within budget of 8.9 million euros. "It is a good day for our region," emphasized Harald Kühn (CSU), a member of state parliament.

After a construction period of one year and three months, the state road 2062 between Achrain and the Schwaiganger landfill was reopened to traffic on Friday afternoon. The times when the route had to be closed due to flooding are now over.

Murnau/Ohlstadt – Apparently, a few drivers couldn't wait. They cleared away the barrier on the Schwaiganger side and rolled their cars on the state road 2062 in the direction of Murnau. But they only got as far as Achrain, where they were received by police chief Joachim Loy and warned them. The motorists had to turn around. The scene was like proof of a sentence that Martin Herda, head of department at the Weilheim State Building Authority and responsible for road construction in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen district, said when it was opened to traffic: "The population is eager to use the route again."

At 11.50 a.m. on Friday, the track was actually clear. Reinhard Klein from Murnau was the first to try out the now flood-proof section of road between Achrain and Schwaiganger with his white Mitsubishi from the direction of Murnau.

Construction completed earlier

The road is completed almost a month earlier than planned. The construction period was one year and three months. 10,000 cubic metres of concrete were used – a climate polluter as we all know. The project remained within budget of 8.9 million euros. Politicians, representatives of authorities and participating companies had gathered for the opening of traffic. "It is a good day for our region," emphasized Harald Kühn (CSU), a member of the state parliament. "That's a big win." Ten years ago, flood clearance was one of the projects that the former district administrator took with him to Munich when he moved into the Maximilianeum. In December 2013, an agreement was signed between the municipalities of Ohlstadt and Murnau and the Free State of Bavaria. "In road construction, ten years is very fast," said Kühn.

District Administrator Anton Speer (Free Voters) also emphasized the importance of the measure: "It is a special day for our district. This has a lot of advantages." From the point of view of the district administrator, a "nice side effect" is the cycle path, which was laid out parallel to the road. "Our network of cycle paths will become even more attractive." This closes a gap.

Murnau's mayor Rolf Beuting (ÖDP/Citizens' Forum) referred to the aspect of the accident clinic. "The accessibility of such facilities must be given at all times." Because sometimes it's a matter of minutes. This is also the case with operations of the Murnau fire brigade on the A95. Beuting did not fail to mention the doubts and criticism. Conservationists had criticized the structure as too massive and oversized. "Nevertheless, I believe that the measure was right and necessary," Beuting said. The mayor made a request to Stefan Scheckinger, head of the State Building Authority: "The Loisach Bridge would still have to be made suitable for bicycles."

Rumor about the bridge

Speaking of which: According to Herda, there is a "persistent rumour" that the bridge is to be blown up – and thus the road would be closed again for a long time. "That's not the case," the head of the department made clear. "There are no plans for this in the building administration."

The raised section of the road is largely located on Ohlstadt land. Mayor Christian Scheuerer (independent) joined in the jubilation of his previous speakers: "Today is a holiday for Ohlstadt." October 27 will be added to the holiday calendar.

Alexander Dobrindt, head of the CSU state group in the Bundestag, said the road blends in with nature. The costs are always justified. It is a "masterpiece building".
