The salaries of judicial magistrates will increase by 1,000 euros gross per month from October, as promised last year by Éric Dupond-Moretti, according to a letter sent to magistrates on Thursday (October 26th) by the Minister of Justice, a copy of which was obtained by AFP. "I announced in September 2022 that in October 2023, magistrates would see their salaries increase by an average of €1,000 gross. (...) You have been able, or will soon see it on your payslip, it is now done," the minister wrote.
This revaluation concerns the 9,000 magistrates of the judicial order of France, for a total cost of 120 million euros in a full year. "If I wanted to increase your remuneration, it is because I know how essential your daily commitment is to make our jurisdictions, large and small, work," he added. Last year, Dupond-Moretti referred to this measure, described as "unprecedented" and "considerable" and aimed at aligning the remuneration of judicial magistrates with that of administrative magistrates.
According to him, the remuneration of magistrates of the judiciary, which briefly includes civil and criminal justice, had not been increased "since 1996" and needed to be brought up to speed with the administrative judges, who are responsible for settling disputes with the administration. The minister said he wanted to put an end to "years of neglect" and tackle the problems of "attractiveness" of the judicial system.
