The increase in the price of everyday costs is slowing down

2023-10-30T09:49:22.939Z

Highlights: The increase in the price of everyday costs is slowing down. The current monthly figure of 3.1 percent is the lowest since June 2021, when it was only an increase of 2.5 percent. If one compares the average consumer prices in October 2023 with the previous month of September, they even fell slightly. The figures make it clear that the times of high inflation may be gradually coming to an end and consumers can breathe a sigh of relief. However, the prices of all everyday products did not go downhill by any means - some also became significantly more expensive.

Whether it's gas for heating, fuel for the car or butter for the dining table, some everyday expenses have become cheaper than before. The days of high inflation may be coming to an end.

Düsseldorf - The everyday costs for consumers in North Rhine-Westphalia have not risen as much as before. The State Statistical Office IT. NRW announced on Monday in Düsseldorf that the inflation rate in the state was 3.1 percent in October. In August, the year-on-year figure was 5.9 percent and in September 4.2 percent.

The current monthly figure of 3.1 percent is the lowest since June 2021, when it was only an increase of 2.5 percent. If one compares the average consumer prices in October 2023 with the previous month of September, they even fell slightly, by 0.1 percent. The figures make it clear that the times of high inflation may be gradually coming to an end and consumers can breathe a sigh of relief.

Edible fats, including butter, became significantly cheaper, the price of which was 28.1 percent lower than in October 2022, according to the data. Consumers also no longer had to dig so deep into their pockets for household energy, gas cost 6.5 percent less than a year earlier, district heating 15.0 percent less and heating oil even 18.9 percent less. Fuel for car journeys was also no longer as expensive as before, with statisticians calculating a price reduction of 13.3 per cent for diesel and 6.0 per cent for petrol.

However, the prices of all everyday products did not go downhill by any means - some also became significantly more expensive. The prices of bread and cereal products in general rose by 11.1 percent in October, while fruit prices rose by 10.0 percent compared to the same month last year. Drinks and clothes also cost more than before. Rising prices were also recorded in hotels and restaurants. Dpa
