FBI Director Christopher Wray warned Tuesday that the actions of the militant group Hamas in the Middle East could inspire other terrorist attacks, including by violent extremists in the United States.
"We expect the actions of Hamas and its allies to serve as an inspiration in ways we haven't seen since the Islamic State group launched its self-declared caliphate years ago," Wray told the Senate Homeland Security Committee during a hearing focused on threats to the United States.
Wray, who testified alongside Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and other U.S. officials, said multiple foreign terrorist organizations have called for attacks against Americans and the West in recent weeks.
