Dozens killed in refugee camp, Hamas death toll says

The Israeli army's bombing of the largest refugee camp in the Gaza Strip, to "eliminate" a Hamas leader, has left dozens dead and hundreds wounded, according to a Hamas toll that we cannot verify. An AFP video shows at least 47 bodies draped in shrouds lying on the ground in the courtyard of a hospital after being pulled from the rubble.

The Israeli army confirmed the bombing of the Jabalya camp, in the far north of the enclave, saying it had successfully targeted Ibrahim Biari, who was said to be one of the leaders of the October 7 Hamas attack on Israel, and who was in "a vast complex of underground tunnels from which he directed operations." The IDF did not confirm the death toll, but said civilians were being asked to leave the northern part of the enclave, which Israel considers "a war zone."

Communication cut off again

As was the case last weekend, the internet and phone lines are completely cut off in the Gaza Strip, according to Palestinian telecommunications operator Paltel. The information was confirmed by an AFP journalist in the enclave, who has access to a telecommunications network thanks to an international SIM card.
