Emergency care due to Israeli war: 16 hospitals in Gaza out of service

Hospitals in the Gaza Strip can barely operate, according to the Hamas-controlled Ministry of Health. 16 out of a total of 35 hospitals in the coastal area could no longer treat patients due to a lack of fuel, a spokesman said on Thursday, November 2. They need fuel for their generators to generate electricity.

According to dpa information, however, Israel does not want to allow the import of fuel into the Gaza Strip because it fears misuse by the terrorist militia ruling there. It is used by the Islamists to ventilate the underground tunnel system, from which Israeli soldiers can be attacked. Israel also accuses Hamas of stealing fuel from hospitals for war purposes.

Hussam Abu Safiya, the chief pediatrician at Kamal Adwan Hospital in the northern Gaza Strip, told the German Press Agency: "We are doing our best, but we need better medical care, otherwise our hospitals will become cemeteries." Surgeries would be performed without anesthesia and only with cell phone lights.
