"We residents of the North Caucasian republics - Dagestan, Chechnya, Ingushetia, Kabardino-Balkaria and Karachay-Circassia - are ready to accept refugees, women and children and do whatever is necessary for their comfort, many willing to give them their homes, protected teachers to teach them Russian, and directors of private clinics to provide them with medical services," reads a petition by a woman named Maryam Aliyeva.

"We have empty villages, which emptied on the eve of the residents' departure, and according to a poll, many are willing to give them their homes to live in. By populating the villages, we will not only help the refugees but also develop agriculture. Given the cultural and religious similarities, Palestinian refugees will be easily integrated into Caucasian society and we are confident that with our help they will benefit."

The petition concludes with a call on Putin to allow the refugees to arrive: "As one of the few who was not afraid to express support for Palestine. The areas, whose residents offer themselves as hosts and receivers of refugees, are the ones where fakes about the arrival of Jews have circulated in the past two weeks and with it an anti-Semitic mood, which ended with Jews searching for flights and hotels.

So far, about 31,5 people have signed the petition and its new target has been raised to 35,<>. The chances of it being answered are slim, but it cannot be ruled out of hand: the Kremlin may pick up the gauntlet, if only for PR purposes that will make waves in the global south in general and in the Arab world in particular.
