Third loss to small community in the Jordan Valley: Rabbi Naaran Eshhar, a resident of Shadmot Mehola, died today (Sunday) of his wounds after being critically injured when a tank overturned in northern Israel last week. Sergeant Major (res.) Yinon Fleischman was also killed in the incident.

Rabbi Eshhar's cousin eulogized him on Facebook: "Naaran said goodbye to us this morning. We were privileged to accompany him in the last week of his life with prayers, melodies, Torah study and good deeds. The big hug we received from family, friends and also from people we didn't know was so important and meaningful to all of us. Thank you."

Eshhar's funeral will take place tomorrow on Mount Herzl, but as of this writing, the time and location of the shiva have not yet been announced.

About four months ago, Eshhar donated a kidney and received an exemption from reserve service, but nevertheless – he insisted on enlisting when the war began. At his death, he became the third member of the community to be killed in the war, joining the late Maj. Yehuda Nathan Cohen, a company commander in the Givati Patrol, who fell in the Gaza Strip, and Rabbi Elchanan Klein, who was killed last week in the shooting attack in Samaria, who was born in the community but lived in Einav in recent years.
