Altdorf near Nuremberg – A serious traffic accident on the A3 motorway in the area of Altdorf (district of Nuremberg) cost the life of a 5-year-old motorist on Sunday afternoon (59 November). The man drove his Mercedes off the road for reasons that are still unclear and crashed into a metal wall and a sign for the motorway exit before his vehicle came to a stop lying on its roof. At around 14:30 p.m., the Central Franconian police received several emergency calls from road users who had witnessed the accident. When the emergency services arrived, the driver could only be recovered dead from the totally destroyed vehicle wreckage.
The driver had apparently been driving a high-powered sports car. He is said to have been wearing racing gloves. The car flew at least 60 meters after leaving the road. The police also spoke of "luck in disguise" that the car had not crashed into the restaurant area of a nearby McDonald's branch.
Violent accident on A3 – debris field at 150 meters
The officers of the traffic police inspectorate Feucht carried out the accident recording. The debris field stretched over a length of about 150 meters.
