STORY - While their government refuses military support to Ukraine, Hungarians are supporting their fellow units in Transcarpathia.

Budapest

At first, a year ago, the idea was simply to sell stamps and posters from Ukraine to donate the proceeds to the soldiers of the Hungarian minority incorporated into the ranks of the Kiev army. But, quickly, contact was made with fighters on the ground. They needed batteries to be able to run their phones, cameras and much-needed drones on the frontline.

In mid-November 2022, Balazs Trautmann, who tells the story from a table in a public garden in Buda, opens a bank account and launches an appeal for donations on a specific Facebook group: "Those who feed the dragons of Transcarpathia." One million forints (2600,24 euros) was collected in 8 hours, making it possible to buy not one, but three <> kg batteries, which the small organisation sent to Ukraine.
