Rabbi Naaran Eshhar in the tank/Walla system!
Rabbi Naran Eshhar, an armored soldier who overturned with the tank he commanded near Rosh Hanikra about a week ago, his family announced Sunday. One of his subordinates, Sgt. Yinon Fleischman, 31, from Jerusalem, was killed in the accident.
Eshhar, 33, from the small community of Shadmot Mehola in the Jordan Valley, was fighting for his life at the Galilee Medical Center and today doctors pronounced him dead. Before the war began, Rabbi Eshhar donated his kidney to the patient - and contrary to protocol, insisted on returning to combat duty. According to military protocol, the time has not yet come for him to return to active reserve duty, and certainly not to an operational position. However, Eshhar insisted on wearing a uniform, and signed all relevant permits - including that of the head of the transplant department. Even after he was recruited for a logistical position, he insisted and demanded to return to his position as tank commander. In this, too, he succeeded - and was placed in the tank's turret.

It is the third space from the moshav, which has a total population of about 700. Eshhar was married to Tzuf and they have two young sons, ages 4 and 5. Originally, Ashchar grew up in heritage, and his wife is from Ma'ale Adumim. Together, the couple decided to settle in Shadmot Mehola in the Jordan Valley. Zviki, a spokesman for the community, said it was a "golden family."
Yaara Eshhar Shir, a member of Eshhar's family, eulogized: "Naaran said goodbye to us this morning. We were privileged to accompany him in the last week of his life with prayers, melodies, Torah study and good deeds. The big hug we received from family, friends and people we didn't know was so important and meaningful to all of us. Thank you."
His funeral will take place tomorrow on Mount Herzl.
