Staff Sgt. Eliyahu Binyamin Almakais, 29, who was killed yesterday (Wednesday) in the Gaza Strip, was supposed to get married on Sunday this week with the choice of his heart Yoana, but the wedding was postponed because of his enlistment in the reserves. The family of Benjamin, who immigrated alone to Israel to enlist in the IDF, came to Israel to accompany him to his wedding, but will have to bury him tonight (22:30 p.m.) on Mount Herzl.
Rafael Jordo, the brother of Almakais' fiancée, told Israel Hayom with deep sorrow: "He was killed on his Hebrew birthday. Benjamin immigrated to Israel from France at the age of 15, completed his matriculation, returned to France for a year and returned to Israel to enlist in the IDF. He lives in Jerusalem and was supposed to marry my sister, but instead of going down the aisle, we'll go to a cemetery. Benjamin was a company liaison, went to head and fell."
Raphael spoke about Benjamin's unique personality: "He was a Zionist, a true patriot, who loved the homeland, extraordinary kindness, always helping others, a man of kindness, smiling. Benjamin wasn't afraid of anything. His whole life was just security and endless giving. Benjamin wanted to marry my sister, to build a house with many children. He loved children. We are in complete shock. His parents came to Israel for the wedding, but instead we, the choice of his heart, his broad and close family, are forced to bury him in deep pain and grief."
