Chairman of the Knesset Constitution Committee, MK Simcha Rotman (Likud), filed a defamation suit against Guy Peleg and Avi Weiss, editor-in-chief of News 12 • Rotman: "Any amount awarded will be transferred directly to the communities and residents of the Israeli envelope in the south, who were injured and evacuated from their homes"

Constitution Committee Chairman MK Simcha Rotman filed a defamation lawsuit this morning, through his lawyer Avi Segal, against journalist Guy Peleg and the news company. They did not apologize and even repeated, according to the lawsuit, "vicious false quotes that the mind and paper do not tolerate," attributed to Rothman.

The statement of claim states: "... Reporter Guy Peleg contacted the prosecutor for his response prior to publication, and the prosecutor told him explicitly and unequivocally that the statements were false and that the person quoted by name never existed and never existed."

In the lawsuit – which also targets social media activists Itai Vered, Shlomi Eldar, Dan Adin and Ran Har-Nevo, who posted a series of tweets echoing the "false quote" for tens of thousands of followers – Rotman demands the removal of all publications regarding the false quote and the publication of an apology on behalf of each of them, along with payment of damages totaling NIS 1,091,300.

Rotman notes in the lawsuit that "any amount awarded by the court in respect of this lawsuit will be transferred directly to the communities and residents of the Israeli envelope in the south, who were injured and evacuated from their homes following the brutal terrorist attack on October 7."
