But there can be no such thing as a <> percent perfect winter service, according to the building department. Everyone should therefore be prepared for the fact that "slippery roads and unfavourable road conditions can occur at any time". The City of Munich is therefore making recommendations to residents. Munich residents are asked to:

  • prepare for winter traffic conditions in good time,
  • equip vehicles for winter use,
  • and, in particular, to comply with the winter tyre requirement.
  • If you are on foot, you should wear shoes suitable for winter.
  • It is recommended to allow more time, drive carefully or switch to public transport.
  • In order not to hinder clearing and gritting services, it is important to park vehicles as close as possible to the edge of the road and to observe parking and stopping bans.

At these times, the municipal winter service in Munich clears – "with foresight and for as long as necessary"

As a rule, clearing and gritting work begins at two o'clock in the morning if there is a snowfall of at least three centimetres or if there is a risk of slippery roads. If necessary, they also start earlier to ensure roadworthy roads and paths around seven o'clock, according to the statement. However, if heavy snowfall began in the morning hours, clearing services would also make limited progress during rush hour, it continues.

The building department provides winter service until 22 p.m., two hours longer than required by law. In the event of extreme winter weather conditions, special and emergency services are set up around the clock. According to its own information, the building department is connected to a special road weather service via the Internet.
