With a goal in injury time, Eintracht Braunschweig won a thrilling basement duel in the 2nd Bundesliga. The previous bottom of the table beat the new bottom of the table VfL Osnabrück late on Saturday, but deservedly with 3:2 (1:1). Ermin Bicakcic scored the winning goal in front of 20,378 spectators in the eighth minute of stoppage time - and the goal was reviewed by the video assistant referee for several minutes afterwards.

Braunschweig - In the end, Daniel Scherning celebrated a successful debut as the third Braunschweig coach this season - against his former club Osnabrück, of all places.

Eintracht played more than half an hour with a man advantage after a yellow and red card for Michael Cuisance (60th minute) and still had to tremble for a long time. Goals from Johan Gomez (11') and Anton Donkor (61') gave the much more dangerous hosts a deserved lead twice. However, VfL converted two of their only two chances in the game to equalise twice from the penalty spot through Cuisance (45+1/penalty) and Erik Engelhardt (87th/penalty).

Despite all the drama, the course of the game also showed how battered the two Lower Saxony rivals are at the moment. After taking the early lead, Braunschweig retreated very far. But neither the completely harmless VfL knew what to do with their resulting possession, nor did Eintracht take advantage of their good counter-attacking chances. In the second half, Braunschweig again became too passive after the 2:1. Dpa
