An open-air carrier hall for 50 refugees is being built in the industrial park in Antdorf. In the long term, the municipality is considering a new building that could house apartments for asylum seekers and the daycare center.

Antdorf – Considerations about where to accommodate refugees in Antdorf have been occupying the community for months. Now it has been decided: an open-air carrier hall will be built on a municipality-owned plot of land in the industrial park. As Mayor Klaus Kostalek said on Friday when asked by the local newspaper, the municipality will lease the area to the district. The hall will be erected at the beginning of December and will be completed within a short time. It should offer a place to stay for up to 50 people. In view of this number, there will also be a security service.

There should be a security service

However, he does not assume that 50 refugees will actually move in, Kostalek said. This is because the hall will be divided into individual areas, each of which will accommodate up to four people. If, for example, a mother arrives with two children, the fourth bed in her area is no longer occupied by a stranger. He could not say when the first residents would move in, the mayor said.

Hall only "temporary solution"

In any case, the hall is only intended as a "temporary solution". In the long term, the municipality is considering building a "dual use" building on the sports field as refugee accommodation and crèche: According to initial plans, which were also published in the current issue of the Antdorfer Zeitung, it is planned to set up seven apartments for refugees on the first floor of the new building and to accommodate the crèche on the ground floor. In addition, classrooms for the refugees are to be built on the ground floor.

Plans for new construction with "dual use"

The entrance to the apartments will be on the south side of the house, the entrance to the daycare center on the north side, according to Kostalek. This would mean that both areas would be in one building, but spatially separated. The fact that this is a somewhat unusual constellation is well known to those responsible in the municipality. However, the municipality is not only challenged when it comes to accommodating the refugees, but also when it comes to integrating the assigned people as well as possible. This integration is difficult to achieve if the refugees live far away from the village. In addition, three buildings for the future kindergarten are to be built on the municipality-owned property. However, it is not yet certain whether these plans will be realized in this way, Kostalek emphasized. He said he wanted to wait and see "how the response" of the citizens to this consideration would be.

Refugees are also being accommodated in Habach; in residential containers in the industrial park.
