A total of 34 migrants were rescued Friday in waters near Florida after the boat they were traveling in began sinking, the U.S. Coast Guard said.
According to authorities, the ship began to capsize about eight miles south of Key Colony Beach when a person reported the incident to authorities.
In a message on the X social network, the Coast Guard said the migrants on the boat were transferred to a Coast Guard ship, "where they will be provided with water, food and basic medical care before being repatriated."
According to Katie Lewis, who co-owns Main Attraction Sportfishing Charters, who was quoted by CNN, Capt. Marty Lewis was the person who saw the boat begin to sink and reported it to authorities.
