Davide Renne, who had just taken up his post as creative director of Moschino on the 1st of this month, passed away in Milan, as confirmed by the Aeffe group, owner of the firm, this afternoon. When his appointment was announced, whose name had been constantly part of the pools since the departure of Jeremy Scott, Vogue magazine described him as a more than gifted professional for a position of that level. The cause of death was a sudden heart attack.

Born in Tuscany, the designer was already preparing his debut collection for the upcoming Milan Fashion Week. Renne, 46, had spent the last 20 years as a prolific member of Gucci's design team under the direction of several creative directors. In recent years, he had held the position of head of women's fashion, working hand-in-hand with the charismatic but also controversial Alessandro Michele, recently replaced by Sabato de Sarno.

Hardened in the most demanding workshops in Italy, he began his career with Alessandro Dell'Acqua after graduating from the Polimoda fashion school in Florence. He would have been the fourth leader of the firm founded in 1983 by the also deceased Franco Moschino.

The company's president, Massimo Ferretti has issued a statement lamenting the loss: "There are no words to describe the pain we are experiencing in this dramatic moment. Davide joined us only a few days ago and this sudden condition has taken him away too soon. We still can't believe what has happened." Ferretti explained that Renne was well-liked and respected in the house and that he had just approached his new role with ambition, enthusiasm and optimism. On the day he welcomed him, he highlighted his human quality by pointing out one of the creative's favorite phrases: "Davide always says that bad manners are the real bad taste."

His popularity within insider circles was unquestionable: when his appointment took place, he was publicly congratulated by his aforementioned colleague Alessandro Michele, Marco de Vincenzo, from Etro, Harris Reed, from Nina Ricci, Giorgia Tordini, from The Attico, the former creative director of Blumarine, Nicola Brognano and the incoming creative director of the same firm, Walter Chiapponi; in the list of people who joyfully echoed their new position were also great figures such as the influencer Bryanboy, the creative director Katie Grand or the businesswoman Anna Dello Russo.
