The Tegernsee fire station is scheduled to be completed at the beginning of 2024. There were a number of delays during construction.

Tegernsee – On the construction site for the new fire station in Tegernsee, not only have the shells, i.e. scaffolding, long since fallen – the new building is showing its face and is nearing completion. In 2021, the demolition of the old fire station marked the start of the mega project. What still needs to be done now, the head of the building authority, Bettina Koch, informs on request.

As is well known, the L-shaped complex consists not only of a wing for the fire brigade. Five apartments are also part of the project. They have already been awarded, "all to members of the fire brigade," reports Mayor Johannes Hagn (CSU). According to Koch, screed and tile work still needs to be carried out in the fire station. The completion of the electrical and sanitary installations also depends on this. In the residential wing, tile work and sanitary installations are also still necessary.

The city successively awarded the contracts for the individual trades during the entire construction period and also informed the public about it. However, various tenders are still necessary, Koch reports. For example, the renewed tender for the screed work is currently underway. Further tenders are necessary, for example, for the barrier system, the construction site cleaning and the furnishing of the fire brigade rooms on the upper floor.

Final sum still unclear

As reported, the city has engaged the international project management company Drees & Sommer, headquartered in Stuttgart. "She supervises the handling of the construction project in terms of cost development," explains Koch. After all, this is the city's largest construction project in a long time. According to Koch, the volume of construction contracts so far amounts to 12.4 million euros. 'The three outstanding tenders are included in this amount. Significant increases are no longer expected." However, it cannot be completely ruled out that the fire station will devour an even higher sum. The head of the town hall, Hagn, speaks of a "safety surcharge" and specifically refers to sums that are necessary due to improvements. "We do not deviate from our specified standards and do not accept any compromises on the structure," says Hagn, who cites the incorrect installation of a staircase as an example. Improvements had to be made, which resulted in a delay in the schedule. He hopes to be able to tell his citizens exactly how much the fire station will cost in the end at the latest at the citizens' meeting in autumn 2024.

Speaking of the schedule, the fire brigade is eagerly awaiting completion – even if the operation in the interim quarters on the opposite schoolyard is running smoothly. The city expects the building to be completed early next year and then the move can take place. This also applies to the five apartments.

Weekly meetings also with the fire brigade

The fire brigade actually wanted to move this year – which would have been a fitting birthday present on the occasion of the 150th anniversary. Koch blames several reasons for the delays: the EU-wide tenders and a lack of offers. Carpentry, carpentry and façade construction work would have had to be put out to tender several times. Delays in the completion of the shell would have resulted in a postponement of the overall construction schedule. On top of that, the city had to terminate the contract with the screed company, which resulted in the current new tender.

So the mega fire station project has not yet been completed. And it continues to take up a lot of time for everyone involved. Meetings, in which the fire brigade also participates, take place "at least weekly", reports the head of the building authority of the final spurt. Gr
