No municipal buildings for the accommodation of asylum seekers: This is what citizens are demanding from the municipality of Reichling in an urgent application. The latter now wants to review the legal situation first.

Reichling – As reported, the district of Landsberg wants to use multi-purpose halls and other municipal buildings from December, as the flow of refugees continues to increase. In the municipality of Reichling, the former primary school in Lüdenhausen (most recently Sudbury School) could possibly be affected.

By the way: Everything from the region is also available in our regular Schongau newsletter. And in our Weilheim-Penzberg newsletter.

A number of citizens are now resisting this: This was shown by the most recent municipal council meeting, which was attended by numerous visitors to the fire station in Ludenhausen. In a debate that Mayor Johannes Hintersberger opened with those present after the official agenda items, some expressed their displeasure that the old school might be occupied by refugees.

Old school is supposed to be converted into a kindergarten

On the one hand, because the building is to be converted for the construction of kindergarten places (we have reported). On the other hand, there were also general reservations about taking in asylum seekers. Only recently, citizens and associations had protested at an information event against the use of the multi-purpose hall in Reichling as refugee accommodation (we also reported). However, since this would probably require even more extensive fire protection measures, the hall is no longer the first option for the district. The district would favor the Ludenhausen school, as it would be easier to create accommodation there due to building law, as press spokesman Wolfgang Müller confirmed on request.

However, not all citizens like this option either: Three Ludenhausen residents had turned to the municipality with an urgent application before the municipal council meeting. They demand that the municipality of Reichling should not provide municipal buildings for the accommodation of asylum seekers and instead offer land for the construction of thermal halls – for example near the Reichlingen sports field.

The urgent application is justified by the fact that the school in Ludenhausen is intended for the establishment of kindergarten places: If the building is temporarily made available as emergency accommodation, this would mean a significant delay in the planning for the conversion to the second kindergarten location of the municipality, the applicants argue.

It is possible that even more kindergarten places would then be needed

"A use as an emergency shelter that requires structural changes will certainly not only be operated for three months, but will then continue to be used as emergency accommodation for a longer period of time," they fear. The kindergarten in Reichling is already "at the limit". However, by taking in asylum seekers in the municipality, even more kindergarten places might be needed.

The motion was read out in the public session. The applicants' claims were then dealt with in closed session. The mayor already announced the result of the consultation on request: According to this, the municipality will now have it examined whether legal action against a possible occupancy of one of its municipal buildings would be possible.

The local newspapers in the district of Weilheim-Schongau are represented under "merkur_wm_sog" on Instagram.

If the review shows that the impoundment of a municipal building would not be legal, the municipality would reserve the right to take legal action against it. With regard to a possible use of the school as an emergency shelter, the mayor pointed out: "We are blocking the conversion into a daycare center. We should be clear about what is more important to us now – whether our children are more important to us or to take over the tasks of the district."
