Penzberg - Zither music in the Penzberg Metropol: The two musicians Sophia Schmid and Tajda Kranjc played pieces from baroque to bohemian at their concert.

A varied program was offered to the audience in the Great Hall of the Metropol Penzberg. The zither players Sophia Schmid and Tajda Kranjc surprised the audience with the stylistic range that was presented here on the zither. Transcriptions of lute music from the Renaissance and Baroque periods were first performed with works by John Dowland, Johann Sebastian Bach and Silvius Leopold Weiss.

On the large zithers in the form of a psaltery, built by Klements Kleitsch, the early music sounds convincing, lute-like and as if made for these instruments, according to Schmid. The musical performance continued through zither classical music and salon music, where Krajnc demonstrated her virtuoso skills in the "Hungarian Fantasy" by Richard Grünwald. Schmid, on the other hand, took the hall on an imaginative journey with her interpretation of "The Butterfly". The program was rounded off with jazzy duo pieces, according to Schmid. But also folk music was not to be missed and so they played a Boarische at the end.

Master's Degree in Zither

After six years of study together, the two zither players completed their master's degree with a major in zither at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Munich in 2022, Schmid says. She is a zither teacher at the Penzberg Music School, where she is currently setting up a zither class. Krajnc comes from Slovenia, where she traveled for the concert, and also works there as a zither teacher.
