At an altitude of 900 metres, the rain in Upper Franconia turned into snowflakes on Saturday – and coloured the landscape in magical white.

Bischofsgrün – While it will be stormy and raining in the rest of Bavaria over the weekend, snow was also possible in the higher altitudes, according to the forecast. And indeed, there was snowfall in Upper Franconia. Meteorologically and calendar-wise, it is still autumn, but on the Schneeberg near Bischofsgrün, district of Wunsiedel, winter has already stretched out its white feelers.

Winter landscape in Upper Franconia – at 900 metres above sea level, the rain turns to snow

On the Schneeberg, the highest mountain in Franconia, light snowfall transformed the landscape into white winter magic. The temperatures also helped – they were only just above zero degrees during the day.

However, the snow won't stay on the ground for too long: In the coming days, the weather is expected to become milder again, with temperatures climbing to over ten degrees from Monday at the latest. To enjoy the snowy landscape in Upper Franconia, people should hurry up.
