Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara wrote to National Security Council head Tzachi Hanegbi on Monday demanding that the classified documents submitted by his office to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office be collected in violation of regulations after the war broke out. The letter, also addressed to Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar, may make it difficult for Netanyahu's people to gather materials intended to help him evade responsibility for the October 7 massacre.

According to a report in Haaretz, Netanyahu's chief of staff Tzachi Braverman has asked the Cabinet Secretariat in recent weeks for classified summaries of political-security cabinet meetings from the terms of the current and previous governments, apparently as part of the prime minister's preparations for the struggle for public opinion at the end of the war.

"During the current period of fighting, allegations have been raised regarding the disclosure of secret content from sensitive security discussions in the media, both political secret content that took place during the period of the fighting and secret content from past discussions," it said. "In the past, you have insisted on the clear security need to prevent the disclosure of confidential information, especially during combat."
Subsequently, the letter states that "great care must be taken that requests to review confidential material are handled in accordance with the mandatory procedures..." He also demanded that the relevant authorities be instructed to ensure that there is an orderly record of all requests submitted for review of classified materials, as well as the manner in which they were handled.
The letter detailed the relevant rules regarding the review of confidential content from sensitive discussions, in order to "refine procedures" in order to deal with leaks. Finally, the letter concluded with a request that an instruction be issued "to immediately collect any material or information provided so far in deviation from the procedures, including its various copies," and suggested that "the National Security Council forward this letter to any relevant entity, at its discretion."
