A police complaint was received a few days ago about a man waving a Palestinian flag from his balcony, shouting and threatening. The officers were not impressed by this, and they decided to ask the court to extend his detention by seven days. Attorney Avraham Sofer, who represented him on behalf of the Public Defender's Office, argued at the hearing that his client could be released because it was an incident of conflict between him and the kindergarten teacher near his home, and he waved the flag in order to distance the parents. "In the morning and afternoon, they block the entrance to his house. He had the purpose of deterring the parents from parking there, and he had no intention of harming public safety," said Attorney Sofer.
Judge Shlomo Michael Erdman accepted the lawyer's argument and released the suspect, but noted in his decision: "It must be remembered, however, that this is a time of war, and during this period there is severity in conduct that harms public sentiment in the course of action allegedly taken by the suspect." The judge kept him away from his city for a week and forbade him from contacting any of the kindergarten teachers near his home, or any of the parents of the children whose children were in the kindergarten, for 30 days.
