The long and difficult days of fighting in the Gaza Strip also exact a high price. In recent weeks, aircrew members of the rescue helicopter squadrons and fighters from Unit 669 carried out more than 60 evacuations of wounded from the combat zone in the Gaza Strip in cooperation with the Medical Corps forces, while providing advanced and life-saving medical treatment.

The evacuations are carried out quickly and under fire from inside and near the Gaza Strip. These evacuations join a total of more than 200 helicopter and mounted evacuations carried out since the beginning of the fighting. The helicopter crew performs complex operations with the help of the Cooperation Unit's assistance officers who are responsible for the communication between ground and air forces.

Lieutenant Colonel A., commander of the Desert Birds Squadron (123): "Since the beginning of the ground operation, the rescue helicopter squadrons have evacuated dozens of wounded in complex terrain, under fire and in extreme situations. The helicopter system works closely with Unit 669 and the ground forces, which leads to life-saving rescues, while providing professional and exceptional medical care from the medical personnel in the helicopter and is prepared to be anywhere and anytime for immediate assistance to the fighters in the field. Our goal is a safe and quick rescue and reaching a medical center in as short a period of time as possible."
