(ANSA) - ROME, NOV 13 - The 24-hour November 17 strikeproclaimed by trade union confederations CGIL and UIL "is andremains a general strike" and is to go ahead as planned, thehead of UIL transport UILT Claudio Tarlazzi said on Monday.
   "The strike proclaimed for Friday November 17 is and remains ageneral strike and not an inter-sectoral strike as the strikewatchdog would suggest," said Tarlazzi referring to an earlierruling by the strike guarantee commission that the stoppage didnot meet the requirements for a general strike and ordering thetwo confederations to make sure essential public services arenot unduly disrupted.
   "It is for this reason that Uiltrasporti intends to go aheadwith this protest by not complying with the restrictionsrequested," he continued.
   "The right to strike must be maintained and defended and we donot understand why only strikes called by the unionconfederations are being stopped," said Talazzi, adding that onrecent strikes called by independent unions "no one hasintervened".
   This Friday's strike against the 2024 budget bill currentlybefore parliament has pitted the unions against Deputy Premierand Transport Minister Matteo Salvini, who has said he willorder transport workers back to work.
