Between October 18 and November 12, France had never experienced so much rainfall in any season. Blame it on a current

Have you been feeling low since mid-October? The weather must have something to do with it. France had never experienced as much rainfall as in the last 26 days, all seasons combined.

Between October 18 and November 12 (26 days), our country recorded an average accumulation of 215.4 mm, says Météo France in an article. To find figures approaching this record, we have to go back to 1993 when a total of 196.9 mm was observed between September 21 and October 16 (26 days).

The culprit of this gloomy weather is called the "rail of depressions". Météo France explains that it is an atmospheric current of altitude present over the North Atlantic and blowing from west to east. "It acts as a highway for disturbances that can circulate freely," says the forecaster. However, our hexagon is right on the trajectory of this "rail of depressions".

No real improvement in the next few days

So why have the Mediterranean rim or the north-east of Corsica once again been less affected by the rains of the last three weeks? "Clouds and rains tend to cling to the reliefs, and the weather dries out after passing the relief," explains Météo France.

Unfortunately, the weather isn't really going to get any better in the next few days. Much of France will experience a lull on Wednesday, before the arrival of a new disturbance on Thursday, followed by "a new rainy passage at the end of the week," says the forecaster.
