His family said he loved music more than anything: "He was a guitarist, he loved to travel especially in Israel, read a lot - Stefan Zweig, Nietzsche, Hemingway. He enjoys drinking quality beer and whiskey with friends."

Noam, his partner, said: "We didn't get married, we took our time, we thought we had our whole lives ahead of us."

A call was issued on social networks to attend Omri's funeral, writing: "Hey friends, yesterday during the clashes in Beit Hanoun, an officer in our battalion was killed. The entire battalion is still inside Gaza, fighting and it is feared that there will be many people attending the funeral. If you have friends in the north in the Karmiel area, I'd love for you to pass it on to them."
