The Geretsried Association for Youth and Social Work is supported by two young people who have decided to do voluntary service.
Geretsried – 30 young people have already completed a Voluntary Social Year (FSJ) at the Association of Youth and Social Work (TVJA). Caroline Plitt (20) from Eurasian and Xaver Osmanczyk (19) from Geretsried have also decided to do this voluntary service. The two new employees were introduced at a press conference.
"Glue that holds a society together": Geretsried sponsoring association welcomes new FSJ members
TVJA Managing Director Rudi Mühlhans was pleased that young people had once again decided to serve society. "It's great that we were able to fill two positions," said Mühlhans at the Saftladen youth center. Part of the FSJ offer is financed by the city of Geretsried. The work that the volunteers do is an added value and "the glue that holds a society together," said Mayor Michael Müller. On the one hand, the FSJ students would benefit personally, but also society as a whole.

The volunteers are employed, among other things, at the Geretsried secondary school in the open all-day care. "We are super happy to have you," said secondary school principal Christine Venus-Michel. The FSJ students are closer to the students simply because of their age. The vice-principal of the Isardamm primary school, Simone Haßlauer, is also pleased about the reinforcement of staff - especially in view of the "unbelievably large classes" at the school.
Voluntary social year as a preparation for later professional life
For Xaver Osmanczyk, his assignment is a good preparation for his later professional life. The 19-year-old already knows that he wants to become a primary school teacher. "It's all going very well," said the Geretsried native, who will initially be out for a few weeks due to a foot injury. When he is fit again, he will support teachers and students in the lessons at the Isardamm Primary School.
By the way: Everything from the region is also available in our regular Wolfratshausen-Geretsried newsletter.
Caroline Plitt is also satisfied – she gets along well with the children. "I've known for a long time that I want to do something social," said the Eurasian native. "And so far, I think the FSJ is very good." But she is still hesitating about her career choice. She could imagine studying social work or becoming a teacher.

The partner for the TVJA in the support of the volunteers is the Miesbach District Youth Council (KJR). Representative Gabi Hoffmann reported on a threatening, massive austerity course by the federal government. "25 percent of our funding is to be cut," she said. It remains to be seen whether the state of Bavaria will step in.
