But this was only possible thanks to the support of Catalan separatists, at the cost of an amnesty law that has been tearing the country apart for weeks. "What was asked of us on Wednesday at Pedro Sánchez's inauguration was an act of faith," said Javier Lizon, a columnist for El País. How can Sanchez now hope to govern serenely? The amnesty bill promises to "guarantee coexistence within the framework of the rule of law".
