Nine people detained in the prison of a substation in the city of Santa Fe escaped this Saturday after breaking a lock and escaping through the roofs of the police building, official sources reported.

The escape took place around 5:30 a.m. this morning from the prison located in the 6th substation. of the La Guardia neighborhood of the provincial capital, located at De Petre 4680.

According to initial reports, police personnel who entered the 7 a.m. shift noticed that nine detainees were missing.

According to initial estimates, the leak would have occurred between 5 and 5:30 a.m. today.

The police warned that the padlock of the prison of the substation had been forced and when they carried out the count they gave notice of the escape, said spokespersons of the case. They also found that the railings were torn off and the masonry damaged.

There were 23 people detained in the police station, when the capacity for that purpose is twelve, sources from the provincial government said.

According to the security force, the escapees were identified as Enrique Quintana; Mauro Monzón; Joel Altamirano; Hernán Molina; Enrique Molina; David de la Rosa; Claudio Sanchez; Emiliano Vega and Maximiliano Quiróz.

After the escape, which was noticed by neighbors of the police station when they heard noises on the roofs of their homes, the prosecutor of Institutional Violence of Santa Fe, Ezequiel Hernández, was notified, who ordered a series of measures to recapture the escapees.

According to the Uno Santa Fe website, members of the Los Pumas Rural Guard joined the search, who were stationed in the waters of the nearby islands to expand the search.

In addition, according to judicial sources, the prosecutor requested measures to determine whether there was police complicity in the escape of the nine prisoners.

Spokespersons for the case said that among the fugitives there is one who was subject to criminal proceedings for homicide, another for possession of drugs for sale, and the rest for unlawful possession of a firearm, injuries and robbery.
