The national parent leadership called on the Education Ministry on Saturday to examine holding classes during the Hanukkah vacation, following the disruption to routine due to the war. In a letter sent to Education Ministry Director General Meir Shimoni, leadership chairman Mirom Schiff wrote that he sees the vacation as "an opportunity to allow children, as long as the security situation permits, to complete some of the missing learning days."
Schiff mentioned that in normal times there was supposed to be a "holiday school" with the option for education teams to choose if they wanted to participate in the project. However, the chairman of the national parent leadership asked in his letter that these would not be senior days and that the teaching staff be rewarded with a "decent and appropriate salary increase." According to him, the existence of studies is important from the social-emotional aspect as well as from the pedagogical aspect.
Meanwhile, about three weeks ago, Education Minister Yoav Kisch presented the matriculation exam outline adapted for the coming school year in the shadow of the war. The plan includes postponement of matriculation dates and easing of exams, which will be divided by region. The outline for residents of communities near the border with Gaza is expected to change in the future, depending on the development of the fighting.
As part of the plan, matriculation exams will be postponed by about two months in most of the country, and the first matriculation exam will take place in March. In communities up to seven kilometers from the Gaza border, matriculation exams are expected to be postponed to an even later date. Summer matriculation exams will be postponed for three weeks nationwide and will end at the end of July. All Israeli students will receive an additional 15% time to complete the matriculation exams, and the volume of material for matriculation exams will decrease by 20-30%. The Meitzav exams in December and February will be canceled.
