Since March, Taylor Swift has been filling stadiums around the world with her "Eras Tour". During a performance in Brazil, a fan died. There is currently extreme heat there.
Rio de Janeiro – Just recently, Taylor Swift eclipsed the NFL. At the duel of the US professional league, which was held in Frankfurt for the first time, everything revolved around whether the musician would sit in the stands or not. Both the Miami Dolphins and the reigning Super Bowl winner, the Kansas City Chiefs, for whom their current partner Travis Kelce plays, have been relegated to a minor matter in the media for a long time.
In the meantime, Swift is performing again after a two-month break from her "Eras Tour". At their concert in Brazil on Friday (17 November), a fan was killed, as reported unanimously by several media outlets. The musician herself spoke out about the tragic incident: She was devastated, she wrote on Instagram just a few hours after the performance.
Temperatures of 58 degrees Celsius in Rio – Swift fan suffers cardiac arrest
Friday's concert was the second after her break, the first of a total of six in Brazil, when a young woman collapsed among the roughly 60,000 spectators. On the way to the hospital, the unconscious 23-year-old Swift supporter suffered a cardiac arrest. She later died in the clinic. The cause of death is not yet known, but it is suspected that the woman collapsed due to the high temperatures.
An extreme heat wave is currently affecting the South American country. During the week, the temperature in the coastal metropolis of Rio de Janeiro felt like 58 degrees Celsius. The National Meteorological Institute classified the situation as very dangerous and warned of dehydration, headaches, nausea and circulatory problems.
Criticism of the organizer was voiced after the incident. Despite the extremely high temperatures and dryness, the concert guests were not allowed to bring their own water bottles, as several visitors wrote on social media. More than a thousand people had to be medically treated by the emergency services during the show. Videos on the internet show how the singer interrupted several times to ask for water for her fans. "I'm sorry, but it's so hot," Swift can be heard saying in the video. "So if people say they need water, please bring it to them."

Swift had cancelled the concert in Rio de Janeiro planned for Saturday (18 November) at short notice due to the death of the fan. "Due to the extreme heat, it has been decided to cancel the show," she wrote in a story on her Instagram account. "The safety of my fans, my crew, comes first," the pop icon continued.

Previously, she shared her grief for the deceased spectator. "With broken hearts" she had to report that a fan had died during the show. "I know very little about her, except that she was an incredibly beautiful person and left far too young," Swift wrote, asking for understanding that she could not talk about the incident on stage. "I feel overwhelmed by grief just thinking about it. My sincere condolences go out to the family and friends."
In March 2023, Swift kicked off her long-awaited "Eras Tour." The euphoria among her fan base is huge. Within a very short time, more than 150 concerts were sold out worldwide. In Seattle, researchers registered a small earthquake during their sold-out show. Due to popular demand, Swift announced more appearances. In July 2024, the singer will also come to Germany for seven performances (Hamburg, Munich, Gelsenkirchen). (rku)
