The teenager of the 80s became a seasoned woman who went her way as a presenter with a lot of style. A look back.

Berlin – Inka Bause (55) is one of Germany's best-known presenters. She has made a name for herself as the face of formats such as "Farmer Seeks Woman" or "Our New Home" and is now successful throughout the German-speaking world. However, she began her career in the GDR, where she was born in Leipzig.

Inka Bause's television career began as a teenager

Inka Bause was only 16 years old when she first appeared on television in 1984. At that time, she sang her song "Spielverderber" in an East German New Year's Eve broadcast and was voted Young Singer of the Year three times by the GDR youth magazine "Neues Leben" in the following years. She was born with musical talent, as her father Arndt Bause (1936 – 2003) was one of the most successful pop composers in the GDR. In 1987 she released her first album "INKA" and five times in a row Inka also won the "Silver Bong", the highest prize in the television hit parade.

Inka got her first moderation job at the age of 20, when she hosted the "Talentbude". It was a programme on GDR children's television DDR2, in which young talents were able to demonstrate their skills. Inka hosted the show together with the singer and composer Hendrik Bruch, whom she married in 1996. The couple divorced in 2005. The musician died in 2016 at the age of 53.

Inka landed her first moderation job in West Germany in 2005 with "Farmer Seeks Woman". This was followed by formats such as "Our New Home", which ran on RTL until 2009, as well as other shows such as "Die Farm", "Jugendliebe" and her own ZDF show "Inka!". In 2012 she also hosted the "Golden Hen" award ceremony and in 2015 she sat on the jury of "Das Supertalent".

Visually, too, a lot has happened with the warm presenter over the years. Because the style with which Inka Bause presented herself on television in her early days was completely different than it is today. Her outfits and hairstyles were 100 percent in line with the fashion of the 80s – from the perm to the knee-high socks to the shoulder pads.
