The Wolfratshausen Senior Citizens' Council has launched a survey: Citizens are allowed to name preferred locations for benches.

Wolfratshausen – Park benches are not just places to sit, but in the opinion of the senior citizens' representatives, they are also meeting places, oases of peace and, above all, urgently needed. Ten new benches are the goal of the Wolfratshausen committee. According to the wishes of the members, they are to be set up throughout the city – not just anywhere, but exactly where the future users would like them to be.

To this end, the senior citizens' representation has launched a survey among the older Wolfratshausers. Respondents can not only indicate where they would like to have a seat. You may also make general suggestions on the subject of benches. "There is a trend," reports the senior citizen advisor of the city council, Dr. Ulrike Krischke, in an interview with our newspaper. Some survey participants would like to see a park bench on popular walking paths, especially on the cycle path between Waldram and the S-Bahn station. At the most recent meeting of the senior citizens' council, former city councillor Roswitha Beyer also brought up this location: "There has been a lack of a bench for a long time."

Citizens want more benches - and are allowed to suggest locations

As the city's senior citizens' representative, Sybille Gruber, explains, several citizens have made the suggestion to equip all bus stops with seating – many would like to see roofs at these locations. Some senior citizens have also reported wooden benches that need to be renovated or replaced – for example near the nature reserve in the Weidach district.

As Krischke says in an interview with our newspaper, the financing of the benches has not yet been clarified. The senior citizens' association hopes for donations from citizens or companies, which could be honoured with a pretty plaque on the furniture, for example. Former city councillor Dietlind Diepen has already pledged a donation. "A city is a community, so there must also be opportunities for encounters," says the Wolfratshausen native. She mentioned several possible locations for additional benches.

Benches are not just a place to sit: "Great places to start a conversation"

For the time being, the committee would like to wait and see whether further locations are desired. Krischke: "Only when we know the need can we formulate an application to the city council." The senior citizens' council itself cannot make the decision – that must be done by the city council or one of its specialist committees. The council's senior citizen advisor has no doubt that additional benches make sense.

"A survey in the district has shown that this is something that many older people want," says Krischke. And it is not only for this generation that seating would be a gain. "All age groups use them," says the city councillor. "And they're great places to talk to each other."
