After more than 50 days, Abigail Idan was released from Hamas captivity today (Sunday) into Israeli hands.
The parents of 4-year-old Abigail, news photographer Roy and her mother Smadar, were murdered in their home in Kibbutz Kfar Gaza on October 7. Her older siblings, Michael, 8, and Amalia, 6, survived after hiding for hours in a closet in the safe room of their home, next to their mother's body.

On that Black Saturday, Abigail knocked on the door of her neighbors, the Brodetzs. Avichai, the father of the family, noticed her covered in blood, which later turned out to be the blood of her murdered father. He took her into the safe room so she could be with his wife and three children, Hagar, Ofri, Yuval and Uriah – and eventually Abigail was kidnapped along with them.
Last weekend, Abigail marked her birthday in Hamas captivity. Her story made waves, and she entered the hearts of many Israelis, who were just waiting for her to appear on the list of those released. Asked if Abigail would be among the hostages released under the deal, US President Joe Biden said he was "crossing his fingers".
