Thailand atrocity: A man opened fire at his wedding, killing the bride and three other people before taking his own life in front of guests at the event. The killer, Cheturong Susuk, arrived at the event drunk and fatally shot the bride, Kanchena Pachonthaek, her mother and sister. Two other guests were wounded by gunfire.
Police told local media that the groom was completely drunk at the time of the shooting, but the motive for his actions remains unclear. Some media outlets reported that the bride and groom argued during the ceremony and that the groom, who is much younger than the bride, felt insecure due to the age gap. Police said it was "speculation" and that a thorough investigation into the incident was needed.
According to media reports, the bride and groom lived together for about three years before deciding to get married, and there was no known serious disagreement between the two. Susuke, a former soldier in a Thai border guard paramilitary unit, lost his leg during his service.
Despite the injury, Sosuk continued to excel in swimming and even won a silver medal at last year's Games in Indonesia. He was scheduled to participate in Thailand's disability swimming championships next month.
Mass shootings are not common in Thailand, but private possession of firearms is considered acceptable. Last month, a teenager shot dead three people at a luxury shopping mall in the center of the capital, Bangkok. The shooter was apprehended by police after a brief exchange of fire.
