A town in the Sumy region, located on the border with Russia, was targeted by a strike, killing three people and causing extensive damage

The atrocities committed in Ukraine remind us that a conflict is unfortunately still ongoing there. Two women and a seven-year-old girl were killed on Tuesday in shelling in the Sumy region, located in northeastern Ukraine on the border with Russia, the regional prosecutor's office said.

The bodies of the two injured women and two men were pulled from the rubble of houses in the town of Seredyna-Bouda, the prosecutor's office said on its Facebook page.

The girl was in a car with her stepfather at the time of the strike. They were both injured, the prosecutor's office added. "Later, the girl succumbed to her injuries in hospital," the source said.

At least five houses destroyed

The shelling was carried out around 12:30 p.m. local time (11:30 a.m. in Paris) using a multiple rocket launcher system, according to preliminary data, the prosecutor's office said. "At least five houses have been destroyed," he said, posting photos of buildings with ruined walls or roofs.

Ukraine has accused Russia of regularly shelling its border towns since Moscow launched an invasion of its neighbour in February 2022, with large areas in the east and south occupied by Moscow's troops.
