Defense Minister Yoav Galant canceled the participation of IDF and Defense Ministry representatives in a discussion that was supposed to be held Tuesday night, focusing on ways to rehabilitate the communities near the Gaza Strip after the October 7 massacre. Following the IDF's announcement of the absence of its representatives, the discussion was canceled because there was no point in holding it without representatives of the army and the defense establishment.
Yesterday, the Ministry of National Security planned to hold a meeting between the ministry's director general and senior ministry officials to discuss how to provide a response to personal security within the framework of the "Resurrection Region" Secretariat, which was established to rehabilitate and develop the communities near the Gaza Strip following the events of October 7. Representatives from all security agencies were invited to the discussion: the Israel Police, the National Security Council, the Shin Bet, the IDF and the Ministry of Defense.
All security agencies announced that they would send representatives to the discussion. However, the evening before the discussion, the IDF and the Ministry of Defense announced that their representatives from the Ground Forces, the Operations Directorate and the Home Front Command, and from the Ministry itself, would not participate in the discussion, following instructions from Defense Minister Yoav Galant.
In light of this, as noted, the hearing was cancelled.
Sources close to National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir claim that Galant's decision stems from political rather than professional considerations: "This is a clearly unprofessional decision, which at the end of the day harms the cooperation of the security agencies. What is sad is that those who will be harmed by Galant's decision are the residents of the Gaza envelope.
