Irena Tati (77) and her daughter Yelena Tropanov (50) were abducted during Black Saturday along with Alex (28), who is their grandson and son. He is the only member of the family left after the terrorists infiltrated their home in Nir Oz and murdered the father of the family, Vitali.
The Trofanov family immigrated to Israel alone and have no relatives in Israel. Sapir Cohen, Alex's partner, was also kidnapped along with the family. In a video distributed by Hamas a few days after the abduction, Yelena Trofanov is seen in the video alongside Daniel Aloni and Rimon Buchstev-Kirsht, both of whom were released from captivity.
Since the disaster, Yelena's friends who work with her are waiting for her return, Alex's friends, who celebrated his birthday in captivity, have opened a war room and are working in a variety of ways to free him. His girlfriend, Gal Practovnik, told Israel Hayom during the struggle: "Alex will do anything for his family and friends – he will turn worlds upside down. And now we do for him. What motivates us is that this is a very small family, three generations, all of whom are in Gaza. If it weren't us making their voices heard, it wouldn't be heard. We are sounding the cry of this family and we will continue to do everything until they return home."
