Bereaved families: "Despite the fact that the demonstrators did not block roads, the police used violence and threats of false arrests" • Police: "Working to allow freedom of expression and protest, at the same time, we will not allow disturbances of public order and harm to the freedom of movement of elected officials to their workplace"

Bereaved families and other activists from the protest tent in Jerusalem showed up Wednesday morning for the weekly protest vigil outside the Knesset.

According to the bereaved families: "To our astonishment, despite the fact that the demonstrators did not block the roads, the police used violence and threats of false arrests, including against the bereaved families themselves."

Maoz Yinon, whose parents were murdered on Black Saturday: "Apparently, there is someone in the government who is not willing to look the bereaved families in the eye. Instead of deterring Hamas, the government is now busy deterring bereaved families. We are not afraid of them, we will continue to demonstrate in front of the Knesset until the government in the country passes into competent hands that take care of the citizens."

According to the bereaved families, the police ripped signs from the bereaved parents, including Yael Alon, a bereaved mother whose son was killed in rescue attempts in the village of Gaza on Black Saturday, and a bereaved daughter whose father was killed in the Yom Kippur War, and Yaakov Gudo, whose son Tom was murdered in the safe room in Kissufim after more than a day there. The bereaved son from Oz Yinon was detained and released in the field.

"Freedom of expression - no disturbances"

The Israel Police said: "Even during the war period, the Israel Police acts to allow freedom of expression and protest within the limits of the law. At the same time, we will not allow disturbances of public order and infringement of the freedom of movement of elected officials to their place of work. Accordingly, a woman was detained in Jerusalem for questioning this morning after she effectively blocked and encouraged others to block the access road to the Knesset. We will continue to allow freedom of protest in accordance with the law, but we will not allow violations of public order in violation of the law."
