Winter is well and truly here. The first snowfall at low altitude observed this Wednesday in France could continue in the coming days, according to Météo France.
In his latest bulletin, the forecaster indicates that snowflakes will continue to fall Thursday on the northern half of the country and mainly in eastern France. Between 2 and 5 cm are even expected in the sectors of Belfort (Territoire de Belfort) and Mulhouse (Haut-Rhin).
"In parallel, another front enters the northwest of the country Thursday morning," adds Météo France. This will result in a mixture of rain and snow falling over the entire western part of Brittany in Île-de-France. A small layer of snow will still be able to hold on the Normandy hills and the Perche.
No snow on Ile-de-France soil
But Ile-de-France residents should not expect to be able to build snowmen in front of their homes. "A few temporary snowflakes can be observed on their own locally, but given the temperatures, ground holding is very unlikely," explains the forecaster.

It will snow the most in the Alps with snow accumulations that will reach 15 to 20 cm around 1,500 m, more than 30 cm above 2000 m during the day on Thursday.
Friday should see a few snowflakes fall on the Perche. Some snow is also expected during the day in the Pyrenees and the Massif Central above 900 to 1,100 m. The snowflakes are then expected to disappear from the sky this weekend with the arrival of drier but still cold weather.
