Summary. On 19 November, Javier Milei was elected President of Argentina at the age of 53. In his victory speech, he promised to implement drastic economic measures to get the country out of chronic inflation that keeps part of the Argentine population in poverty.
An economist by training, he became known to Argentines in 2015 when he took part in television programmes in which he said that public spending should be cut. On set, he is virulent and regularly insults the political class. In 2020, he entered politics and created his own movement, before being elected MP for the first time in November 2021.
For Code source, Flora Genoux, correspondent in Argentina for several media including Le Parisien, looks back at Javier Milei's career.
