(ANSA) - ROME, NOV 30 - A bill banning lab-grown meat inItaly is pending notification to Brussels, sources saidThursday.
The bill still has to be promulgated by President SergioMattarella.
Piercamillo Falasca, the Vice President of the More Europe(+Europa) party, has warned that Italy risks an infractionprocedure after parliament approved the bill presented by theruling coalition to ban the production, distribution and sale ofcultivated meat here.
More Europe has appealed to Mattarella not to sign the bill intolaw.
Cultivated meat is grown from animal-tissue cells in alaboratory, meaning that animals do not have to be slaughteredto produce it.
The ruling coalition has said the ban is needed to safeguard thepublic from potential health risks and protect Italy's livestockindustry and its traditional cuisine. (ANSA).
