"I'm very surprised by this new burglary because it's very protected in his home. But with his works in lead, it can only attract the lust of certain populations. Michel Gérès, the mayor of Croissy-Beaubourg, learned on Thursday morning that the studio of the famous German artist Anselm Kiefer had once again been the victim of a burglary during the night.
The criminals broke into its huge premises near the airfield to steal sheets of lead, damaging works of art in the process. There were no arrests. The investigation has been entrusted to the judicial police of Meaux. According to initial information, the damage could reach one million euros.

It must be said that Anselm Kiefer is an internationally renowned visual artist. In his premises in Croissy-Beaubourg, bought in 2009, this septuagenarian regularly works on his colossal works and will even expand since he buys two buildings in the area. "Initially, he wanted to create an open-air museum, but it didn't happen," says Michel Gérès. With Epamarne and the Paris Vallée de la Marne intercommunality, we would now like it to bring us a plus on a cultural level. Where he buys, we could have businesses and jobs. »
This is not the first time Anselm Kiefer has been the victim of a burglary. In 2019, still in the middle of the night, the cameras filmed two men working on large lead pages of the monumental work. The security guard had put them to flight. In August 2016, twelve tons of marble and ten tons of lead were stolen from the same warehouse.
