Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez caused an uproar on Thursday by sharply criticizing Israel and correcting that there is doubt that the country complies with international law regarding the fighting in the Gaza Strip.
In an interview with local television network TVE, Sanchez said, "What Israel is doing in the Gaza Strip is unacceptable. The photographs we see and the increasing number of children dying, I have serious doubts that Israel complies with international law."
The Prime Minister's Office said Netanyahu instructed Foreign Minister Eli Cohen to invite the Spanish ambassador to Israel for a reprimand. The prime minister's statement called Sanchez's statement "a shameful statement by the Spanish prime minister on a day when Hamas terrorists murder Israelis in Jerusalem, our capital."
