The book does not begin with a racing narrative or a fiery description of the melodic sound of the V12 engines. The author, Sylvain Reisser, a journalist at Le Figaro, prefers to remind the reader of a forgotten episode in the life of the Argentine driver: his kidnapping, on February 23, 1958, on the eve of the Havana Grand Prix, at the Lincoln Hotel, by armed men of the Castro M-26-7 movement. The kidnappers then explained to the five-time world champion that his abduction, that of "the most famous personality on the island", was intended to draw the world's attention to the Castro political movement, whose importance the Batista regime wanted to downplay.
