Aryeh (Zalman) Zalmanovitch, 85, one of the founders of Kibbutz Nir Oz, was murdered in Hamas captivity in Gaza. This was announced today (Friday) at Kibbutz Nir Oz.
The family was informed that he had been murdered in captivity. Arie was the father of two sons and grandfather of five grandchildren.
His son, Boaz Zalmanovitch, painfully eulogized: "Abba Zalman, who was kidnapped on October 7, was murdered in agony of body and soul at the hands of the wrongdoers. Our hearts are torn to pieces, we will miss them. All the abductees must be returned, as well as the elderly and sick whose time is limited in their heads."

"All his life he was a man of the land who worked in agriculture and field crops. A man of letters with broad knowledge of history and knowledge of the land," the kibbutz's farewell message said of Arie.
