Sosa Balderanou is impatient – and that's a good thing. Because when she hears that someone needs help, she makes sure that it comes immediately – and not in several weeks when the applications are written, submitted, approved and paid out. This is how she came to psycho-oncological counselling, for which the district councillor is committed.

Taufkirchen – At that time, Sosa Balderanou struck up a conversation with a patient suffering from cancer who wanted to meet her for a coffee. "And that's what I did, but with not one, but five patients, because word got around," the 49-year-old recalls. The result was five different stories, each touching in its own way. "Actually, you could write a book," was Balderanou's thought at the time.

It didn't become a book, but a pamphlet: "G'schichtn, die des'n so schreib...". Sosa Balderanou presented this work on Thursday evening at her self-organized charity event in the Taufkirchen Bürgersaal. 230 guests had come together there to financially support three of Balderanou's heart projects.

First of all, moderator Hans Moritz, editorial director of the Erdinger/Dorfener Anzeiger, welcomed Dr. Barbara Scholtissek, Dr. Barbara Freudenthal and Dr. Stefanie Jilg from the psycho-oncological counselling service on stage. "A patient needs more than a check of his blood values and findings. It's about the person as a whole," Scholtissek said, explaining the work of the consultancy. The ultimate goal is to have a trained, sympathetic ear for patients at all times.

This also includes costly taxi rides and home visits. "Man has a disease, but he is not only this disease. And a lot of people forget that," she said. Even a doctor's appointment in the coming week does not help if people are emotionally overwhelmed in their current situation. "Sometimes the help has to happen tomorrow or the same day, and then you can't look at the money, but action has to be taken," Moritz confirmed.

On top of that, there was another reason to celebrate: Dr. Jilg's birthday. So the first artist of the evening, the Dorfen composer Andreas Begert, sang "Happy Birthday" on the piano. Together with singer Lisa Orthuber, he presented several original compositions to the audience.

This was followed by a film about the Association for Therapeutic Riding – Baleranou's second project close to his heart. Presenter Moritz found it "simply heart-moving" to see how children with disabilities are happy to be able to sit on a horse. Balderanou could only confirm this: she had no idea about horses, but when she saw the shining children's eyes, she couldn't help but get involved with the association.

But riding is also cost-intensive, from planning to picking up the horse to the wheelchair-accessible ramp, explained Balderanou together with Birgit Schöfberger, Katharina Mergenthaler and Maria Schober. Without donations, a riding lesson would cost 15 euros instead of 70.

Roland Hefter, who on this evening had a dual role as a musician and member of the Helferschwein association, also had to wipe tears from his eyes on stage. "These are also tears of joy when you see that there are so many people who help," he explained, before making the guests optimistic with his song "Des werd scho no". The helper pigs had spontaneously decided to add another 2000 euros to the 1000 already donated. "After all, 3000,<> is better divided into three," Hefter said.

And Balderanou's "We" working group also showed its willingness to help. Unbureaucratic and quick help for people and families who are in need through no fault of their own is the common motto. "They need the help now, not in three or ten days. With the authorities, it takes an eternity," Balderanou summed up.

Even if something is not in the law, fortunately common sense ensures that these people are taken care of as a community, Moritz emphasized. With that, he led over to the sounds of the Erding musician Michael Benker, which closed the event.

Previous donations, entrance fees and the filled donation box on site led to a proud donation sum of almost 26,400 euros, Balderanou was pleased to say after the count.

If you would like to purchase one of the 600 brochures, you can do so for 15 euros at the Taufkirchen banks, Hilger Erdbau, the Sedlmeier dry cleaners and the Fürmetz petrol station from Tuesday, 5 December.
