Researchers from The Economist published a list of the world's most expensive cities last week. This list, as expected, also includes an Israeli representative, Tel Aviv, who, despite the many claims about the cost of living there, came "only" in eighth place, which she shares with Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark.

The first place on the list is shared by Zurich, Switzerland, and Singapore, which is known as one of the most expensive cities in the world in a variety of fields such as transportation, clothing and more, and in last year's ranking was also in first place together with New York.

This year, New York dropped to third place on the list, which it shares with another Swiss city, Geneva. The surge of Swiss cities is due to the strengthening and resilience shown by the Swiss franc, in parallel with the rise in prices in the country.

In fifth place is Hong Kong, followed by Los Angeles and seventh place is taken by Paris, followed by, as mentioned, Tel Aviv and Copenhagen.

Regarding Tel Aviv, British magazine reporters noted that the survey was conducted before the "Iron Swords" war began, and the impact of the war on the currency and prices could affect the cost of living and, accordingly, the ranking. San Francisco closes the list of the ten most expensive cities in the world, featuring three American cities on this 'respectable' list.

Another war that has affected the ranking this year is the one between Russia and Ukraine. Moscow dropped 105 places to 142nd, while St. Petersburg dropped 74 places to 147th. The last places on the list, that is, the poorest cities in the world, are taken by two cities from the Middle East - Damascus and Tehran, slightly above them Tripoli.
